English Premier League Manager Of The Month (August and September 2018)

Every month during the Premier League season, the best manager is given the Barclays Manager of the Month award by an expert panel of Football Association members. The winner is typically announced on the first or second Friday of each month.

This August, Watford head coach Javi Garcia was bestowed with the prestigious award. Watford was a top pick to be relegated this season, but to everyone's surprise, by winning their first four opening games; beating Brighton and Hove Albion 2-0, Burnley 3-1, Crystal Palace 2-1 during August. Later, even managed to defeat English giants Tottenham Hotspur with a 2-1 victory, Watford was killing the game by comfortably snatching a place for themselves on the top of the table.

This series of fortunate victories resulted in Garcia bagging his first ever manager of the month award, making this only the second time ever that a Watford coach was given the title, which was won by Quique Sanchez Flores way back December 2015.

Garcia, to the delight of many Hornets fans, managed to beat off several other big names – Liverpool’s Jürgen Klopp, Chelsea’s Murrino Sarri and Tottenham Hotspurs’ Mauricio Pochettino to claim the award. The Spanish head coach and former football player, was, without a doubt, delighted, citing “the very good atmosphere”, “the workers” and “the supporters in all the games” to his, as well as Watford’s success so far. The club, under Garcia and all the practical experience he brings to the table, have had a great run, surpassing all expectations.

The month of September has quite a few deserving candidates as well. Sarri could bag the award. The Blues, under his unique possession based managerial style, have been doing immensely well, having won all their matches so far. This September, so far, they managed to, beat Newcastle 2-1, followed by another home victory at Stamford Bridge with a 2-0 victory over Bournemouth. Jurgen Klopp is another likely contender. Liverpool’s performance has been impeccable this season so far, and many predict that they might be able to make it all the way to the top and win the title for the first time in more than 20 years. He has a great team at his disposal, and he knows just how to use them for maximum output.

Manchester City has been the favorites to win the season, giving Pep Guardiola a fighting chance of winning the award. He is an accomplished, seasoned head coach, and if he can replicate what he did with his club last season, he will undoubtedly be a strong competitor for the award.
